Canon PowerShot SX130 IS

Canon's PowerShot SX130 IS ($249.99 list) rides the line between point-and-shoot and D-SLR with "many of the same features as a higher-end camera"
such as 12x zoom and 60 millimeter lens that can produce images at 12.1 megapixels. Throw in a built-in pop-up flash, 3-inch LCD display and 720p HD video capability to make this camera a step forward from the PowerShot SD1400 IS (4 stars, $229.99 list). With even more features where that come from, Canon calls its PowerShot SX130 IS "the ideal camera for making the good times last."

Design and Features
Packed into a curved, smoothed black frame, the PowerShot SX130 IS leaves enough room up front for its 12z zoom lens and grooves to fit your fingers when taking the shot. You'll also notice that this camera is slightly thicker to make room for the pop-up flash that rests on top. The back end is, of course, where you'll find its 3-inch LCD screen and this camera's menu and imaging controls.
Inside, the PowerShot SX130 IS makes use of an optical image stabilizer to reduce motion blur throughout the camera's zoom range, according to Canon. When shooting HD video, this camera has a unique shooting mode that's purely for fun—or the creative types—called Miniature Effect. When shooting a normal scene, this feature enhances the perspective of your shot to give the illusion that the subjects are miniature models while removing select frames during playback to increase the effect, according to Canon. Also included is a built-in Fish Eye lens effect to give that convex perspective to images without the need for a special lens.
Canon claims that the pop-up flash in the PowerShot SX130 IS uses a feature called Smart Flash Exposure to analyze lighting conditions before taking the shot, which helps ensure against poorly exposed images. This camera also contains Canon's Smart AUTO to automatically choose image profiles from 22 shooting modes based on what's inside the frame before the picture is taken. Packing Canon's DIGIC 4 Image Processor for faster, more accurate noise reduction, Canon claims the PowerShot SX130 IS brings a slice of the higher-end camera world to point-and-shoots for under $300.
