Canon EOS 60D

The Canon 60D is fast, shoots gorgeous still images and video, and adds tons of options to make your video look professional, but those looking for ease of use may be deterred by the lack of continuous autofocus during video recording.

Angle

The $1,099 (body only) 18-megapixel Canon EOS 60D is an exciting D-SLR and is Canon's first D-SLR to feature an LCD with an articulating LCD.

Top

The 60 offers a second small LCD panel located on top of the body dedicated to showing shooting information (ISO, aperture, shutter speed, etc.).

Back

The articulating LCD can completely flip around so the screen faces your subject or even the body (so it can be tucked away and not damaged).

Screen

The most practical use for the articulating LCD is holding the D-SLR above your head (angling the LCD down) or below your waist (angling the LCD up).

Screen

A scroll wheel next to the LCD offers rapid cruising through menus and images.

Left

The Canon 60D is a traditional D-SLR, so when shooting through the optical viewfinder you get piping fast phase-detection autofocus—it can literally focus and shoot an image in less than a second

SD Card Slot

The camera writes to SDHC/SDXC cards, but keep in mind that you’ll want to use at least a class 6 SDHC card if you want to shoot at 5.3 frames per second.

Right

The 60D has no issues when it comes to speed. The camera can turn on and shoot in an average of .7 seconds and then once it can fire off 5.3 frames per second.

Ports

The Canon 60D can plug right into your HDTV for playback via it’s mini-HDMI or to your computer via mini-USB.

Angle

The Canon 60D knocked out sharp scores and excellent performance in low light environments (without a flash) offers performance comparable to the Editors' Choice Canon T2i.

Interface

The interface is identical to pretty much every D-SLR I’ve seen from Canon in the past two years. It’s very straightforward and clean.

Interface

The LCD on the back of the 60D is gorgeous. Like the Canon EOS Rebel T2i, the 3-inch display contains 1.04 million dots.

Interface

Video recordings can be captured in 720p at 60 frames per second or 1080p at 24 or 30 frames per second. There’s on-board mono recording and a input for stereo microphones. You also have complete manual control while recording video, so you can adjust the shutter speed (to control motion blur) and aperture (to control depth-of-field).
